Wednesday MLB Play of the Day: Rangers to win 14th straight behind Hamels

Cole Hamels is a short -118 favorite at home tonight against the Astros.
Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - Houston Astros (Fister) at Texas Rangers (Hamels) -118, 8.5 (OV -120)

LAS VEGAS -- It's hard to believe that Cole Hamels has never started a season with a 3-0 record, but that's what's stake tonight (8:05 pm ET) at Arlington when he faces the Astros (5-9) and Doug Fister as a short -118 favorite.

The Rangers (8-6) have won all three of Hamels (2-0, 2.95 ERA) starts this season, which continues the run he had to close out the 2015 regular season when they won his last 10 starts. That's 13 straight regular season wins by the Rangers behind the left-hander and if they win tonight it'll tie the Rangers record of 14 straight wins behind Bobby Witt in 1990.

Hamels streak is enough to support him in any wagering strategy, as well as a price about 15 cents cheaper than it should be, but what makes it a better play is Fister (1-1, 7.59) not being in his best form. In his last start he got roughed up for six runs at home in a 6-2 loss against the Royals. In three lifetime starts at Arlington, he's 0-2 with an 11.85 ERA.
